Happily surfing the internet in the evening, cursing the computer in the morning because internet just won't work. As if this isn't a usual thing to happen using Windows (XP in my case)? Well this time it was a really mysterious one, because EVERYTHING worked but my browser (Firefox).
That includes:
- pinging the router
- pinging other computer on the network
- pinging any website by commandline (cmd)
Most likely other programs except the browser would work too. I didn't try.
Anyways the reason this happend seemed to be a svchost process categorized NETWORK by the taskmanager. This process turned out to be dnscache as "tasklist/svc" punshed into cmd returned.
Well because I didn't know any other way, I just deactivated the DNS-Client service, which seems to be responsible for our little dnscache process.
Now everything works just fine.
If I find a better way to fix this, I shall post it here.
